Opportunity. Choice. Power.
When you make a choice, you are exercising your power to decide what’s next.
Not everyone has the privilege of unlimited opportunities or choices. Your gender, race, socioeconomic status and other factors beyond your control directly affect your risk of poverty, discrimination and violence.
We work with women and girls who face discrimination solely because of their gender.
Their choices are limited because someone already decided for them.
Someone decided she doesn’t belong in the House, Senate or Oval Office.
Someone decided her body exists only for his pleasure.
Someone decided she probably provoked him and that’s why he hit her.
Someone decided they couldn’t be a parent – and so here she is, alone with 6 kids who still need to eat and still need a safe place to call home.
If you’re in a position to make a choice, to use your power to do something real… then choose: help a woman remember her own power, what she thought she lost, but is working really hard to reclaim; help a girl during some of the most confusing teenage years of her life realize that everything she needs is right here, her power is hers, and it will only grow with her.
Choose her. Let us introduce you to her… She is vulnerable. She works hard. She has hope. She is bold and brave.
If you see yourself in her, it’s because you are also bold, vulnerable and brave. And we need people like you in our community of changemakers.
LiveYourDream.org = Opportunity + Choices
Our community of nearly 100,000 volunteers and activists raise awareness about some of the most serious challenges facing women and girls today, such as gender-based violence and lack of access to quality education. We are social activists, passionate advocates and program ambassadors, introducing local communities to our life-changing dream programs–Live Your Dream: Education & Training Awards for Women and Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls.
Time is valuable. Not everybody is able to commit more than a few hours to make a difference in their community. Which is why we provide flexible action opportunities tailored to your time, availability and cause of choice. You can take action in a matter of minutes by advocating for survivors, educating your local and social networks or contributing to the next scholarship for a woman in need.
“It was a really good experience; something I could do from home that could have a positive impact on somebody’s life. You don’t get to do that every day.”
Many women in our community are also fellow survivors and mothers who know it takes a village. They’ve reached a point in their lives where they’re ready to pay it forward. Our community demonstrates a powerful ripple effect of women helping women.
“Being a [Live Your Dream Awards] judge was a rewarding experience for me because I can identify myself with these women, some of their experiences are also mine… their stories inspired me, now I know that I’m not alone.”
We’re on a mission to ensure every woman and girl has the opportunity to reach her full potential, live free from violence and of course, live her dreams.
Alyssa helped to launch LiveYourDream.org back in 2012 and has combined creativity and all-things-digital to develop a fun, meaningful, connected space for you to get inspired and take action. Her passion for women’s empowerment drives her day-to-day work, but also her own volunteer experience – from art-service exchanges abroad in Tanzania to helping families in domestic violence shelters in the states. For fun, she loves live music, yoga, dancing, traveling and pretending to be a food critic at new restaurants!
