Full Circle: Recipient to Leader

As we reach the halfway point of March, I want to share a piece of my story, one shaped by challenge, resilience and the life-changing support of Soroptimist/LiveYourDream.org.

Before I ever became a Soroptimist club president, I was a woman in need of help.

I married at 17 and later found myself in an abusive relationship. When I left, I became a single mother of four sons, carrying the daily weight of uncertainty about how I would provide for my family.

During our darkest days, the Live Your Dream Award was a lifeline. It helped me put food on the table, pay bills and keep going when hope felt fragile.

That support changed the trajectory of my life.

Because of Soroptimist/LiveYourDream.org, I was able to regain stability, pursue opportunities, and believe in a brighter future. Today, I’m honored to serve as president of my club, Soroptimist International of Oakdale, CA, and to give back to the organization that once lifted me up. I have also served on the SIA Governing Documents Task Force and participated in the Leadership Fellows program.

I share this not to highlight my journey—but to show what’s possible when you, my fellow Soroptimists, support women.

That’s why I’m proud to stand behind Walk for Women and to encourage fellow Soroptimists to support our critical work.

Right now, gifts are being matched dollar for dollar up to $4,600, making this a particularly meaningful moment to give. When you contribute, you’re not just donating—you’re giving more women the same opportunity I was given: the chance to rebuild, pursue education and imagine a future filled with possibility.

Thank you for believing in this mission and for continuing to invest in women who are ready to change their lives.
