Domestic violence thrives when we are silent. But if we speak up, we can end it. Below are some domestic violence facts to explain the scale and impact of this problem.

FACT: 4,774,000 women in the U.S. experience physical violence by an intimate partner every year.

Many women who have experienced domestic violence don’t speak out about their abuse. Sometimes they’re worried about the stigma. Sometimes they’re not certain if what they’re experiencing counts as abuse. Sometimes they fear that speaking up will put themselves and their children in greater danger. Sometimes they feel like no one would listen or care.

FACT: Each year, 2 million injuries and 1,300 deaths are caused as a result of domestic violence. Three women are murdered every day by an intimate partner.

You can help break the silence. Whether you’re a survivor yourself or want to be an ally to survivors, we need your voice to raise awareness about this issue that affects far too many women and girls.

Your Advocacy Matters: Share the Domestic Violence Facts

We have a responsibility to share the facts to educate ourselves and others to end domestic violence. Talking about domestic violence helps to erase stigma and shows survivors they will be supported.

FACT: Domestic violence has long-term effects. It can negatively impact a woman’s mental health, physical health, productivity, earning potential and overall financial security. Her children’s mental well-being is also at risk of long-term damage.

  1. My mom and and sister were murdered due to domestic violence. This has to be put to an end so many families are suffering and children are losing their lives.
